When I think about David Lynch, I think of a man who taught us all how to be unapologetic in our art and in the pursuit of truth and meaning, no matter how ugly it might be. Through the motifs and themes of his work, especially in his practice of transcendental meditation, Lynch seemed to recognize the truth that unites us all: we don’t have a lot of time on this Earth. And because of that, he lived everyday true to himself. I respect David Lynch as an artist because he really embraced the darkest, strangest sides of himself. Even if it risked alienating those around him. The disorientation of life is how so many people feel every day. And when studio executives, fellow directors, and audiences would say “what the hell is this”, he never shied away from the absurdity of the world around him, and always opted to present this absurdity back to us on the largest screen possible. Everything David Lynch touched felt like a dream. Even when the images he created made us uncomfortable, scared, anxious - we felt safe with where he was taking us. When he took us on the opposite directions we expected, we still trusted him with the final destination. Since his passing a week ago, every single person working in Hollywood has come together to share their favorite David Lynch memory. This is a legacy we should all strive for. In his passing, he has shown us that, even in a world filled with divisiveness, it is possible for all people to agree on something. And we all agree that David Lynch was someone worth remembering and celebrating.

Anytime FBI Deputy Director Gordon Cole appears onscreen, fans of the show are all smiles. From his endearing yelling to his infatuation with Shelly, Gordon Cole makes for one of the show's most likable characters. "You are witnessing a front three-quarter view of two adults sharing a tender moment," is one of those quotes that makes Twin Peaks such a timeless, unique show.
Gordon Cole wasn't just some goofball, though. He was an amazing boss and an incredibly intuitive man. When he spoke with Denise Bryson in season 3, he said something that echoes just how wonderful he truly was: "And when you became Denise, I told all your colleagues, those clown comics, to fix their hearts or die."

Someone off stage pours the bucket of espresso over the man’s head, followed by a bucket of ice water.
David Lynch’s Ice Bucket Challenge is everything you would hope it to be. He was nominated by Laura Dern and Justin Theroux. I won’t spoil his nominee.

I thought, “That would be really weird. It doesn’t make any sense. It makes no sense.” I put him in my head and I read the script and I’m like, “This is way better than any of those guys. This is the only guy that could ever do it. If I don’t get David Lynch, I’m not doing it.”
He has a lawyer and an assistant. So I sent the script with a letter, and I said, “If I never get to say anything else to you, thank you for your work and what it’s meant to me. This is a guy I think you would be perfect playing.” The first response came from his assistant, Mindy, who was very nice and said, “He loves the script, he thinks it’s really excellent. He doesn’t want to mess it up for you. He doesn’t think he’s right for it. He doesn’t like traveling either.” So I wrote back and said, “I want you to know that I’m not expecting you to play this guy the way he reads on paper. I’m not expecting you to play a different kind of person than you. The idea is that you, being the way you are naturally, the way you speak, delivering these lines, is what I’m looking for – that’s what I want to see.” And then he wrote back and said, “Aren’t there 10,000 other people that could do this better than me? And I don’t like traveling.”
